A Fascinating Look at HWM's Remarkable Motor Racing Legacy

Few names are as closely associated with Aston Martin and British motorsport heritage as HWM, Hersham & Walton Motors.

Although many enthusiasts know HWM today as the world's oldest Aston Martin dealer, fewer realise that the company also built its own racing cars and played a pioneering role in establishing Britain's post-war presence on the international motorsport stage.

We have just been reviewing a feature Classic & Sports Car magazine published back in 2020. It is an interesting piece by renowned motoring historian Simon Taylor that explores the remarkable story of HWM, from the very first HW-Alta Streamliner built in 1948 through to the unique HWM Coupé, the final car ever produced by the marque.

The article follows both extraordinary machines, examines the vision of founders John Heath and George Abecassis, and tells the story of how a small Surrey workshop helped lay the foundations for Britain's future dominance in international motorsport.
